POLICE ARREST A 39-YEAR-OLD SELF PROCLAIMED PASTOR IN CONNECTION WITH RAPE CASE IN MANKWENG

POLOKWANE: The Police Detectives at Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) have arrested a 39-year-old suspect in connection with a rape case allegedly committed at Sickline bushes in Mankweng policing area.

According to reports, the 40-year-old woman during March 2024, on an unknown date, she was allegedly approached the suspect seeking assistance in finding employment. The suspect, who allegedly claimed to assist people through spiritual practices, reportedly took the victim to a nearby mountain under the pretext of conducting prayers and rituals.

Upon arrival at the mountain, the suspect allegedly instructed the victim to kneel down for prayers before he suddenly pushed her to the ground, and raped her. It is alleged the suspect threatened to kill the victim should she disclose the incident to anyone.

The victim further indicated that after some months she discovered that she was pregnant and later gave birth to a baby. Further investigations will be conducted to determine if the suspect is the father of the child

Following police investigations, the suspect was arrested at Sickline village in the Mankweng policing area on Thursday, 14 May 2026. He is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of rape.

Police investigations are continuing.
