TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED FRAUD AND CORRUPTION

Limpopo: Two suspects between the ages of 30 and 51 were arrested by Polokwane based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) and the National Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC) in Cape Town on 26 January 2026.

During 2021, SCI received complaints about officials who were issuing learner’s and driver’s licenses without following proper procedures in return for gratification at Lephalale Testing Station.

On 07 February 2025, the SCI and the RTMC conducted a joint operation at Lephalale Test Station to address the complaint.

The team went to the examination room, and they found eight learners writing learner’s driver’s license test, whereas ten learners completed the attendance register.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two outstanding learners appearing on the list were declared competent, whereas they didn’t write such test.

A case docket of fraud and corruption was opened. The SCI was entrusted with the investigation of the case.

After completing the investigations, the Hawks handed docket to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for decision. As a result, the warrants to arrest the suspects were issued.

The manhunt was conducted, resulting in the apprehension of both suspects.
They are scheduled to appear in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on 28 January 2026 to face charges of fraud and corruption.

The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Brigadier Desmond Alexander praised the arresting team.
