Ekurhuleni’s MMC for Roads and Transport, Andile Mngwevu, is missing in Mozambique after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Chokwé. The City of Ekurhuleni confirmed Mngwevu’s disappearance, stating that a South African rescue mission has established contact with one of the five individuals who were in the vehicle, but Mngwevu’s status and whereabouts remain unconfirmed.
The incident occurred while Mngwevu was on an official visit to Mozambique, and the South African government is working closely with Mozambican authorities to locate him. The SANDF has deployed two Oryx helicopters to assist in the search and rescue operation ¹ ² ³.
