KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has thrown his weight behind Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, endorsing him for a second term as Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS). This decision follows a high-level meeting with National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, with Mkhwanazi’s current tenure set to conclude on March 30, 2026.

Premier Ntuli praised Mkhwanazi’s leadership, citing his pivotal role in addressing KZN’s high crime rates, including political killings and extortion. “There is no basis not to recommend a police officer of the calibre of Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to continue with the work he is doing,” Ntuli affirmed ¹ ² ³.

Mkhwanazi has been recognized for his impactful and proactive approach to policing, enhancing operational coordination between SAPS and other law enforcement agencies.
