Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s lawyer has requested a postponement of his testimony before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s lawyer has requested a postponement of his testimony before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, citing poor health and mental capacity concerns. Matlala, who is being held at Kgoši Mampuru II Correctional Centre, is facing attempted murder charges and is a key figure in the committee’s investigation into police corruption and political interference.

His legal team argues that Matlala is not ready to testify due to the adverse prison conditions, lack of access to documents, and his deteriorating mental health. The lawyer, Matlhatsi Abram Madira, stated that Matlala’s incarceration has negatively affected his health and mental capacity, making it impossible for him to meaningfully participate in the proceedings.

The committee had planned to hear Matlala’s testimony this week, but his lawyers are pushing for a postponement, warning that proceeding without adequate preparation would undermine the fairness and integrity of the inquiry. The committee has not yet responded to the request, and a decision is pending
