Malusi Gigaba to Face Corruption Charges in Transnet Scandal
Former South African Minister Malusi Gigaba is set to face corruption charges related to the Transnet scandal. Gigaba, who served as Minister of Public Enterprises, was summoned to appear in court today, November 7, 2025, in connection with alleged irregular procurement activities at Transnet SOC Ltd.
According to reports, Gigaba’s office confirmed he would cooperate fully with the legal process. However, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) later stated that Gigaba is engaging with them and won’t be appearing in court today.
The charges against Gigaba are linked to contracts allegedly awarded during his 2010-2018 tenure, including a R54 billion locomotive procurement deal. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has not yet released the full charge sheet.
Gigaba maintains his innocence, stating, “My conscience is clear regarding my conduct in office.” The case is part of a broader investigation into state capture and corruption at Transnet
