TWO ILLEGAL HUNTERS SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IMPRISONMENT OR FINE OF R10 000

POLOKWANE: Two male accused, Calvin Maseamo (37) and Kgwale Mutome (36) found guilty of illegal hunting and were each sentenced to two (02) years imprisonment or a fine of R10 000 by the Senwabarwana Regional Court on Thursday, 31 July 2025.

The members of Musina Stocktheft and Endangered Species Unit were alerted about the suspects who were driving in a gold Toyota Fortuner vehicle and hunting illegally at one of the farms in Mogwadi Policing area. On 2021-08-27, at around 04:40 an accurate information was gathered, and the team activated a joint stakeholders operation, whereby two accused were subsequently arrested at Nimmersault and along Legkraal road, in the Mogwadi Policing area.

During the arrest, members seized 1x ant-eater (dead, 2x warthogs (dead), 3x iron spears, 1x axe, 11 hunting dogs, and cellphones.

The case was assigned to Detective Captain Willie Taute of the Musina Stocktheft and Endangered Species Unit.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended investigating officer and everyone who participated in the case for ensuring that the accused were made to pay for their criminal acts and given an appropriate sentencing by court.
