PREMIER DR RAMATHUBA TO CONDUCT A SUPPORT VISIT TO GREAT NORTH TRANSPORT HEAD OFFICE AND DEPOT
Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, will on Tuesday, 22 July 2026, conduct a support visit to the Great North Transport (GNT) Head Office and Depot in Polokwane, situated in the Capricorn District Municipality.
The visit forms part of the Premier’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the performance of state-owned entities, especially those with a direct impact on the lives of ordinary citizens. GNT, a subsidiary of the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA), plays a crucial role in providing affordable, reliable public transport to communities across the province, yet it has faced numerous operational and financial challenges in recent years.
GNT is one of the 3Ds companies which legislature through SCOPA has mandated the Premier to establish an inter ministerial committee chaired by her to oversee the implementation of their turnaround strategy in order to be self sustainable. This was as a result of annual bailouts from provincial government. Premier’s visit will also ensure proper oversight which will reinforce accountability.
“There is a need for a functional GNT because its non-functionality directly impacts the livelihoods of ordinary people who have no alternative means of transport. Losing GNT would deepen the hardship of our working-class communities. That is why government must intervene and work collectively to restore its viability and purpose,” said Premier Dr Ramathuba.
The Premier will begin her visit at the GNT Head Office, followed by a walkabout and engagement session at the GNT Depot.
