ACCUSED CONVICTED FOR ROBBERY AND ATTEMPTED MURDER
 
GAUTENG: The accused Mfaniseni Zondi, Sambulo Ngwenya, Sibusiso Thabethe, Sipho Dlamini, Pilate Ncube, Brian Xaba, Paul Maphanga appeared before the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Johannesburg on 08 July 2025, where they were convicted for conspiracy, robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition, malicious damage to property.
 
Their conviction originates from an incident that took place on 21 June 2018. It was reported that at about 12hoo in the afternoon security official from Fidelity Cash Solution  arrived with an armoured vehicle (AV) truck at Supabets in Hillbrow Johannesburg to collect cash. The security officials then collected the cash with trolley bags and whilst they were busy going back to their armoured vehicle, they were then accosted by more than six suspects at the time. The suspects then disarmed the security officials and took undisclosed amount of money. They then fired several shots and injured  bystanders and innocent civilians. The suspects then fled the scene with Nissan NP 200, VW Polo and Toyota Corolla. The two security officials sustained injuries.
 
The information was followed up and the suspects were chased and arrested on same day of the incident. The accused were in custody since their arrests in June 2018. They appeared in court on several occasions until their recent conviction.  The case against the accused has been postponed to 11 July 2025 for sentencing.
