SEARCH AND SEIZURE OPERATION AIMED AT COUNTERFEIT GOODS YIELDS FAVORABLE RESULTS
GAUTENG: A coordinated search and seizure operation was conducted by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Johannesburg on Wednesday,11 June 2025 at Georgia Office Park in Sandton.
The operation which is aimed at combating the illegal distribution of counterfeit goods as well as to enforce intellectual property laws and by so doing protect consumers from fraudulent products. During the operation the following counterfeit goods were discovered and seized, various clothing items including shoes, perfumes and jewellery by the following brands; Louis Vuitton, Nike, Christian Dior, Long Champ, Hugo Boss, Tag Heuer and Versace with an estimated value of R3 million.
The Gauteng Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the multidisciplinary team for this major operation which is aimed at tackling counterfeit clothing. General Kadwa further said, “we remain committed to ensuring that as the Hawks’ we dismantle the manufacturing, distribution and sale of counterfeit clothing that is becoming widespread in our illicit economy. The Hawks’ together with its partners will remain in the forefront in curbing the unscrupulous trade of counterfeit products.” Arrests are imminent.
