A 35-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT FACING CHARGES OF ILLEGAL PROCESSING OF PRESUMED PRECIOUS MINERALS AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT APPEARED BEFORE COURT
POLOKWANE: A male suspect, Vongani Mathebula, aged 35, who was arrested for illegal processing of presumed precious minerals and contravention of immigration act, appeared before the Giyani Regional Court, on 2025-05-26. He was remanded in custody until 2025-06-06 for further Police investigation.
The suspect was arrested during an intelligence led operation Vala Umgodi conducted by at Giyani Policing area under Mopani District, on 2025-05-24.
According to the information, the team made a follow-up after receiving information, which led to the arrest of the suspect aged 35 at Mapuve Village, in the Giyani Policing area.
Meanwhile one male suspect was found busy processing the presumed precious minerals at the identified illegal mining site. He was then arrested for illegal processing of presumed precious minerals. He was also charged with contravention of immigration act after he failed to produce a passport.
During the arrest, Police confiscated a variety of equipment such as a bag of presumed precious, measuring scale, headlight, electric motor, steel balls, steel phenduka stand, and phenduka.
The Police investigations are ongoing.
