POLICE SERGEANT GRANTED R2000 BAIL KILLING HER SON (25) AND HIS 16 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND

A 49-year-old police sergeant Constance Mosibudu Sathekge was granted bail of R2,000 in a double murder case that has sent shockwaves through the community at The Morebeng Magistrates’ Court.

Sathekge, who is stationed at Botlokwa Police Station, faces two counts of murder after allegedly shooting and killing her son, Khotso Sathekge, and his girlfriend, Naledi Mmonwa, following a heated altercation on February 13, 2025.

The court ruled that granting bail was in the interests of justice, citing that Sathekge is not a flight risk and unlikely to interfere with investigations. The court also took into account her role as a mother and primary caregiver to her four-year-old son, who has special needs.

The case has been postponed to April 24, 2025, for further investigations. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has confirmed that the matter falls under Schedule 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act, meaning the accused had to prove why she should be released on bail.

Sathekge’s arrest came after she voluntarily reported the incident to the police, raising questions about the circumstances of the tragic shooting. While details remain unclear, investigators are expected to delve deeper into the motive behind the fatal altercation.
