FAKE MUNICIPALITIES WORKERS IN COURT FOR SELLING JOBS TO RATANDA RESIDENTS GAUTENG – The Vaal Rand-based Hawks’ Serious Crime Investigation has netted three accused in, jobs for cash corruption at Emfuleni Municipality. A case of corruption was registered at Ratanda police station earlier in August this year. It was reported that on 30 April 2024, complaints were received from community members in Ratanda stating that there was a recruitment scheme by a syndicate pretending to be working at the Municipality. It is further alleged that community members were given Capitec bank account details. The said details were said to belong to the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) of Public Works. In return, the applicants received fraudulent employment contracts. An intense investigation by the Hawks yielded positive results in identifying the syndicate involved. This led to the arrest of three accused; Teboho Prince Mabote (28), Rocky Moholola (29), and Matshediso Motseare (40). They are alleged to have benefited more than approximately R 200 000 from the unlawful scheme. The case was heard in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 August 2024. It was postponed to Thursday, 29 August 2029, for a bail hearing.

Limpopo Department of Health sends a team of healthcare professionals to administer Bilharzia treatment to 142 learners at Malwandla Primary School The Limpopo Department of Health is starting today (28 August 2024) dispatching a team of healthcare professionals to treat the 142 learners of Malwandla Primary School who tested positive for Birlhazia. Last week, the department sent a mobile clinic team to conduct tests after parents and teachers suspected that learners at the school might be having the condition. The dispatched team will provide immediate medical care and treatment to the affected learners. All learners who test positive will receive appropriate anti-schistosomal medication to treat the infection. In addition, given that bilharzia is often transmitted through contact with contaminated water, the department is working closely with water service authority in the area to assess and improve water quality in the affected areas. Measures will be put in place to ensure that all water sources used by the school and the surrounding community are safe and free from contamination. Parents, guardians, and community members are urged to support these interventions by ensuring that children avoid swimming or playing in potentially contaminated water and by ensuring that they take children who are suspected of contracting the disease to the nearest health facility.
