LIMPOPO READY FOR HIGH TRAFFIC VOLUMES AHEAD OF RELIGIOUS GATHERINGS

The Department of Transport and Community Safety is fully prepared to manage the expected influx of travelers on the province’s roads, as many head to Limpopo for religious gatherings from 30 August to 01 September 2024.

To ensure a safe and smooth flow of traffic, law enforcement officers are already deployed at strategic locations along major routes and critical points. These deployments are focused on key routes, including the N1, N11, R101, R81, R71, R579, R37, R36, R40, R528, R574, R516, R521, D4040, D19, D4, R524, and R523.

Officers will maintain a zero tolerance stance on reckless and irresponsible behaviors on the roads such as speeding, drunk driving, overloading, driving without a licence, vehicles with expired licence discs, and public transport operators without relevant licenses. This will be done through a range of law enforcement operations across the province.

Motorists are urged to prioritise their passengers’ safety by ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and that they wear seatbelts. This is the foundation of a safe journey, as a roadworthy vehicle minimises the likelihood of mechanical failure, and seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of injury or fatality in the event of an accident. Furthermore, motorists should strive to minimise distractions while driving, avoiding the use of mobile phones, eating, or engaging in conversations that may take their attention away from the road.

We wish all travelers a safe journey and a pleasant stay in the province. Remember, road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Obey the rules of the road to arrive alive at your destination.
