A MAN APPEARS IN COURT FOR FRAUD AND CONTRAVENTION OF VAT ACT.

The Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court postponed the case against VAJ Construction and Trading (Pty) Ltd, and Arthur Vusumuzi Jubeta (37), to 12 September 2024, for the accused to get the services of a lawyer. It is alleged that the company was registered by Author Vusumuzi Jubeta, as the sole Director. South African Revenue Services discovered that the company’s taxable turnover exceeded R1 million in the tax period for 2016. SARS verified that the company never registered for Value Added Tax (VAT) in terms of section 23(1)(a) of the Tax Administration Act, Act 28 of 2011.  The accused are facing two counts of fraud, each, and contravention of section 23 of the Value Added Tax Act, Act 89 of 2011.  The accused were released on warning.
