SUSPECT REMANDED IN CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE WORTH R1.9 MILLION IN MODIMOLLE
POLOKWANE: A 30-year-old male suspect, Sipho Dlamini, appeared before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 02 March 2026, on a charge of possession of a suspected stolen Toyota Land-Cruiser V8
valued at approximately R1.9 million.
The suspect was remanded in custody until 06 March 2026 for a formal bail application.
The arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the Waterberg Flying Squad, Modimolle, and Mahwelereng Crime Prevention Units on Saturday, 01 March 2026.
Police received information from a vehicle tracking company at about 10:30 regarding a grey Toyota Land Cruiser V8 with Gauteng registration, which had been reported stolen in Bedfordview during February 2026, travelling along the N1 towards Limpopo Province.
Members immediately operationalised the information and intercepted the vehicle at Middlefontein North, outside Modimolle. Upon inspection and circulation, the vehicle was positively confirmed to have been reported stolen.
The driver was arrested on the scene and detained at Modimolle SAPS. The vehicle, valued at approximately R1.9 million, was successfully recovered.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the members for their swift response and effective collaboration, which led to the recovery of the high-value vehicle and the arrest of the suspect.
Police investigations are ongoing.
